East Lancs ABA v Isle of Man Select (31st March 08)

A youthful East Lancs Divisional Squad of 10 boxers travelled to the Isle of Man on Saturday to take on an experienced Isle of Man Select Squad at the Hilton Hotel, Douglas.
Tameside Elite ABC's Liam Jones opened the bill in a kids gloves contest against Jamie Devine and then the full competition began with 11 year old Leigh ABC boxer Adam Ridge taking on Niall Fielding. An entertaining bout saw a majority win for the Manx boxer. 12 year old Aiden Lowe of Tameside Elite ABC then took on Connor Askin, but lost out to his strong opponent.
In the best bout of the evening, a dominant display by Chorley ABC 14 year old southpaw Jack Catterall over Isaac Lowe brought the East Lancs back into contention. Northside ABC's classy Charlie Scholfield then levelled things up with a unanimous points win over Eddie Rennie. The final schoolboy bout saw the East Lancs take the lead when exciting Bolton Withins ABC prospect Relal Ali outpointed Callum Rodgers.
Macclesfield Boys ABC middleweight Kirk Crawthorne was outpointed by Sean Askin, and then in a pulsating bout Hamer ABC's 17 year old Charlotte Brown put up a fantastic display before just losing out to the home side's popular 26 year old Cassie Lace. Another Macclesfield Boys ABC middleweight, Josh Spencer, then easily outpointed Lee Ashton to take the score to 4-4 going into the final bout. Squad captain Ethan Scowcroft of Whitehaven ABC was opposite Commonwealth Games hopeful Daniel Roberts at welterweight and in a cracking contest the East Lancs boxer always looked in control before surprisingly going down to a majority points defeat to the home boxer.
Despite going down 5-4 the young East Lancs squad all performed excellently in their first representative appearances and were cheered at the end by an appreciative Manx crowd.
